Third Reich sports stadium demolished in Berlin

The Deutschlandhalle, erected in the capital in 1935 one year before the Olympic Games, was the largest sports area in the world at the time. Later it became the scene of huge party rallies.

Crowds turned up to watch as explosives were used to demolish the building. A new 65 million pound conference and exhibition centre will be constructed in its place by 2013.
