Body of the 18-year-old daughter of the Leipzig mayor, Alfred Freyburg, after committing suicide by cyanide/Lee Miller.

The entire family had committed suicide upon the arrival of the Americans and the bodies were photographed by both Margaret Bourke-White and Lee Miller. The Freyburg family was not the first, and certainly not the last, German family in a powerful position to commit suicide upon the Reich’s fall.
