Anonymous asked: why is eisenhower your favorite president?
I forgot I had this!
One, because I have always loved Eisenhower for the general that he was. He’s more of a legend than a man and I’m perfectly okay with that.
But more importantly, when he was president he attempted to stop the arms race and he tried to ~defrost~ the Cold War—which is funny since the Cold War only intensified while he was in office. The man was a soldier before he was a politician, and I give him so much respect for going toe-to-toe with MacArthur and telling him to sit the fuck down and how he dealt with the Korean War. The Eisenhower administration always had the whole “the President is our grandfather” feel to it as well, which I don’t believe was truly the case but he let America’s foes believe that (though I think they all knew it was an act as well) but our country had a quiet peace during his term.
Save for believing in the Domini Theory and sending advisers to Vietnam (and some other things) Eisenhower did well. Does this make sense?
